Antique Georgian Ring Natural Burmese Ruby w Certificates Diamonds Gold (6888)
15ct Gold, diamonds and natural, no heat untreated Burmese (Myanmar) ruby with certificate as well as independent appraisal. Made in England circa 1800.
Measurements: Weight is 3.6 grams. Slightly under US size 6 1/2. Ruby with Gemmological Certification Services stating that the ruby is of Burmese (Myanmar) origin, has no indication of heat treatment and is. Description : A stunning ring consisting of 3 tiers of gems with a wonderful, bright pink-red Burmese ruby in the central, raised section. The ruby is rectangular in shape and cushion cut.
It is surrounded by a border of rosecut diamonds in gold collet mounts. They are at a slightly lower tier than the ruby and seem to hold it aloft. In turn, they are surrounded by an outer border or third tier of high, cushion cut diamonds that are larger than the inner ring of rosecuts. They are also set in gold collets. A pair of diamonds lead the eyes to the shoulders of the shank/hoop, that consist of openwork scrolls of gold.As the hoop progresses along the sides of the finger it consists of an elongated tapering leaf form containing disks of gold. The very back of the hoop is quite plain. The design and workmanship of this ring are exceptionally lovely. It is unusual to find diamonds set in gold (as opposed to silver) from this period.
The ring is very well made. Gems are bright and lively, especially the ruby, which is very beautiful. Marks and Metal: There are no hallmarks, as is to be expected of a ring of this age.
It stays lightly, but clearly for 18k, so we are erring on the side of caution by calling it 15ct gold. Appraiser tested it electronically as 18k. Condition: Good with minor wear commensurate with age to hoop, which is slightly worn, as is to be expected.
